Islamic Tarbiyah and character

Tarbiyah means nurturing: the patient work of helping a young person grow in faith, character and conduct. At Quadranza Academy it shapes the whole school, not one period of the week. It is present in how teachers speak to students, how students treat one another, how work is done honestly, and what we choose to celebrate.

What students learn

  • Qur'anic values. Honesty, responsibility, patience, gratitude, justice, compassion and service, understood through the Qur'an and reflected on in everyday situations.
  • The Seerah. The life and example of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, as a model for character, leadership and mercy.
  • The Companions and the Ahl al-Bayt. Lessons from the lives of the Sahaba and the family of the Prophet, including Hazrat Ali and Hazrat Hussain (may Allah be pleased with them), studied with historical care for their justice, courage and patience in hardship.
  • Adab. Good manners in speech, in learning, in disagreement and online.
  • Reflection and accountability. Learning to pause, reflect and act with awareness of Allah.

From values to everyday work

Tarbiyah gives the rest of school its reasons. Values discussed in Tarbiyah are expected, and noticed, in ordinary work.

  • Amanah (trustworthiness) becomes honest work: doing one's own thinking, crediting sources and using AI openly.
  • Justice and courage, learned from the Seerah and the Companions, become the confidence to speak up fairly in a discussion or to lead a team well.
  • Generosity and service become real decisions: about Zakat and Sadaqah in financial literacy, and about who a project is for.
  • Sabr (patient perseverance) becomes the habit of staying with a hard problem.

Parents as partners

Parents are a child's first teachers. We aim to share what students are learning in Tarbiyah so that conversations can continue at home, and we welcome families' questions.

Questions

  • Will Tarbiyah respect our family's approach to Islam? We teach with respect for the diversity of the families we serve.
